Segway Ninebot E25 Review: An Upgrade of a Classic Ninebot E-scooter

The Segway Ninebot E25 is a decent foldable electric scooter from the famous Segway brand. The model is based on the original Segway Ninebot ES2, but it is slightly bigger. In some countries, the E25 is called E25E (Europe) and E25D (Denmark). It is the same electric scooter with some minor modifications to comply with each country’s e-scooter laws.

Overall, the Segway Ninebot E25 is an upgrade from the ES2, featuring an additional battery, shock absorbers, a larger frame, triple brake system, and an IPX4 rating. The e-scooter model also features a slim and pleasing design, decent speed and acceleration, and good overall quality.

This Segway Ninebot E25 review will dive deeper into its features and see if its a successful upgrade from the Segway ES2.

Top Speed

The Segway Ninebot E25 has a top speed of 25 kph, which is a typical speed for this type of commuter electric scooter. It also follows the maximum allowable e-scooter speed in Australia, that’s why it can’t go faster than 25 kph. However, some users report that the top speed can decrease for heavier riders.

Meanwhile, riders can enjoy three speed modes (Eco, Standard, Sport) that provide a good pace when travelling.

Max Range

The maximum range in a single charge is 25 km. However, since the E25 can be upgraded with an external battery, the e-scooter’s total range can go up to 45 km. If you can’t buy the external battery, the e-scooter still offers a good range suitable for short trips or first and last-mile trips.

Just keep in mind that the maximum range could change depending on your current speed, motor use, and rider weight.

The Segway Ninebot E25 battery has a capacity of 214Wh, 36 V Lithium-ion battery, which is more than the ES2. It’s a decent battery that can offer a decent range. However, riders can opt to add more battery capacity by upgrading with an external battery. This almost doubles the capacity of your battery.

The Ninebot batteries are also one of the best e-scooter batteries in the market. Thanks to the E25’s smart-BMS, you can be sure that the E25’s battery will last longer than average e-scooters.

This electric scooter is easy to fold and carry because of its 14.4 kg weight, which is the average e-scooter weight. It has a quick-release button to fold and unfold the e-scooter easily. When folded, the E25 can be quite compact, but is noticeably longer than most e-scooters. Nonetheless, it’s a good e-scooter to carry or to drag along using one of its wheels.

Dashboard and Controls

The Segway Ninebot E25 features a small circular LED display that shows your speed, battery level, riding mode, and Bluetooth status. Meanwhile, the controls are pretty standard and intuitive, similar to other Segway electric scooter models. Also, the E25 features cruise control, which can be set up using the Ninebot.

The E25 is fitted with lights. You will not only find the LED head and tail lights but also ambient lights found under the deck. There are also reflective lights found on the rear fender, and front and rear sides of the deck. The front light is not the strongest light out there, but it’s enough to make paths visible at night.

The E25 features 9-inch solid front tyres, which is an upgrade from the 8.5-inch tyres of the ES2. It’s uncommon to see solid rubber tyres on e-scooters. After all, most e-scooters and riders prefer pneumatic or air-filled tyres due to their comfort. However, the E25’s solid tyres ensure that its durable, slow to wear, and puncture-resistant

The Segway Ninebot E25 features a triple braking system with an electronic brake in the front and rear tyre plus a foot brake in the rear. All brakes offer enough power to stop immediately when riding at top speed.

Ride Quality

Unfortunately, because of the solid tyres, the Segway Ninebot E25 can be quite uncomfortable to ride, especially on rougher paths. The front shock absorber somehow helps with cushioning the ride, but it might not be enough for some. However, as long as you ride on flat terrain, there will be no problem in terms of ride quality.

Segway offers a warranty for the E25 if it’s purchased with an authorised dealer. The warranty lasts for 12 months, and it specifically covers the deck, wheels, and other body parts. Meanwhile, the components like the battery and brake are covered for only six months. Lastly, components that wear down easily, like the headlight and kickstand, are covered for three months.

Pros & Cons

  • Cruise control
  • Upgradable external battery
  • Aesthetic design
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Triple braking system
  • Decent speed and range
  • Slightly uncomfortable ride
  • Might not be enough speed for some
  • Very basic scooter

Final Thoughts

The Segway Ninebot E25 is a successful upgrade from the ES2 because of some minor tweaks. However, it is a basic electric scooter at best. It’s suitable for people who are looking for a simple and basic electric scooter for short trips. Overall, it offers decent performance, but it could still do better considering its price point. However, if you don’t mind the slight bumps and the basic features, then the Segway Ninebot E25 is for you.
